Our third annual bilingual Chinese/English Tiantai Buddhism Intensive will focus on meditation, monastic life, and the bodhisattva precepts. Our primary text for lecture week will be Nagarjuna’s Precious Garland. Practice week will be a broad curriculum of Buddhist topics with practice instructions drawn from the Essential of Buddhist Meditation by Tiantai Master Zhiyi.
Structure:
The first week will focus on forms and learning how to practice mindfulness in a monastic setting while also having lectures and discussion on foundations of Buddhist practice & study.
The second week will be an intensive silent meditation practice. Using the techniques and study from the previous week, we refine our practice together.
The last week will be in Taipei at our main Academy. The focus will be lectures and discussion group with morning and evening practices.
This retreat is suitable for those with no experience with Buddhism but a strong interest in the ethics or practice and willingness to commit to a communal way of life for three week. This is also suitable for those with experience who are considering to receive the bodhisattva precepts or already have them and wish to deepen their understanding in a community context.
